At Learning Analytics Indonesia (LAI) Research Lab, we believe in the power of data to improve learning by turning it into insights that matter.

Education is evolving. Technology has transformed how learners access knowledge, how teachers deliver instruction, and how institutions make decisions. But even as classrooms go digital and platforms generate more learning data than ever before, one question remains:

how do we turn this data into better learning experiences?

LAI Lab exists to explore that question.

Who We Are

LAI Lab is a community-based learning and research space dedicated to human-centered, data-informed education in Indonesia. We learn, build, and share openly to strengthen Indonesia’s learning analytics ecosystem.

We explore how learners progress, how they interact with content and with one another, how they feel and regulate their learning, and how educators and EdTech teams can design experiences that truly meet learners’ needs. Our role is to make complex learning analytics concepts accessible, practical, and grounded in real educational contexts.

We work locally and think globally. Our roots are here in Indonesia, but our perspective, partnerships, and aspirations connect us to the broader learning analytics community.

What We Do

Our work is centered around two key initiatives:

LA Insights
A knowledge and practice hub that translates global learning analytics and EdTech research into actionable ideas for the Indonesian context. Through toolkits, articles, explainers, and curated resources, we make evidence-informed concepts usable for educators, developers, and researchers.

Learner Sense
A learner-centered exploration of emotions, motivations, behaviors, and experiences. We study what learners feel, need, and do within digital environments and turn those insights into strategies to design more empathetic, engaging, and effective learning.

We believe meaningful change grows through everyday decisions made by teachers, designers, developers, and learners themselves.

Why It Matters

Learning analytics is more than counting clicks or tracking performance. It draws from behavioral patterns, learner interactions, self-reports, and learning products to develop a rich understanding of how people learn in context.

It is about recognizing learners as active agents.
It is about grounding decisions in theory-informed insights.
It is about designing technology that supports learning in ethical, human-centered ways.
